Supporting, scaling, and developing new opportunities for our districts, schools, and students
Upon entering this project, we knew we wanted more interoperable systems, but we weren’t necessarily sure where to start. Our three pilot districts came to consensus on a concrete challenge to solve: to create a “dashboard that will help us see literacy assessment data at multiple levels of zoom – building, teacher, class, student – when working with school-level PLCs (Professional Learning Communities).” Identifying this unifying needs statement was powerful, because it helped us focus our efforts.
One of the challenges we have been facing is the amount of time it takes to get the data from each district, because each of the 42 districts in the county sign different data sharing agreements. A small committee at the San Diego County Office of Education has been putting together a universal data sharing memorandum of understanding (MOU). With just ONE data MOU, we can securely and efficiently gather information at a central location.
Our team has been working on two dashboards that meet the use case (visualizing literacy assessment data) that our pilot districts agreed on. At this point, we’ve been able to build both of these dashboards using only our own resources.
