Pathway to Excellence
Uinta County School District #1 (UCSD #1) is located up. Way up. Evanston, Wyoming is nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Uinta Mountains at an elevation of 6,794 feet above sea level. With that kind of height, the district is used to seeing things from a different perspective. This was no different when it came to tackling the challenge of data interoperability: the safe and secure transport of data between district systems.
UCSD #1 started with the six thousand, seven hundred and forty-nine foot view of ideas for how to solve this challenge. Dreaming big, they reached out to as many stakeholders as they could, interviewing everyone from the CFO to the director of transportation. What would it look like to map all of the district resources in one location? What if there was a dashboard that visualized not just state assessment data, but behavioral data as well? Who are all the different vendors we could collaborate with?
These questions, and the design thinking process they were part of, drove UCSD #1 to develop an Operational Data Store (ODS), collaborate with their SIS vendor, work with other vendors to become Ed-Fi certified, and eventually design dashboards for teachers and students to use.
The goal of these dashboards is to provide a platform for students, parents and teachers to use data to collaboratively design learning plans that meet individual student needs– all part of their vision of personalizing education for every child.
