Over the past four years, we’ve created a learning environment and a strategic plan in which every student will ascend via personalized and blended learning. In 2018-19 we have added the final piece: a student dashboard that not only tracks students’ academics and student created goals, but also Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and equity to help guide and support them in their time at this district. With transparency and student agency at the center, all stakeholders in a student’s education have the data and strategies to help them ascend.
- We have learned many lessons throughout this the process of making our student dashboard, or Learner Positioning System, live, which include: Sometimes we need to go slow to go fast. We needed to clean up our data and data protocols. We also needed to curate and streamline our online databases and platforms. Finally, we need to partner with vendors that have the same goals and heart that we have. We hosted a district data interoperability summit and invited all of our online and offline vendors to attend. We showed them our moonshot and asked how they could help get us there.
- We learned we needed to market our dashboard and communicate updates to our board and all stakeholders. Consistent messaging is key.
- We learned to leverage the skills of our experts, teachers, who have been part of our design teams and our rollouts via professional learning opportunities and training. All of our professional learning opportunities are centered on our district initiatives with a laser focus.
- Celebrate success - small and large. Each step that we took, we celebrated with our staff.
