Empowering and motivating for today and tomorrow
Devices alone will not solve the digital divide. In 2009, our strategic design declared “learning happens 24/7,” so we set out to ensure that learning activities and opportunities were robust and well-supported. At first, this meant giving students devices for the 2009-2010 school year. We quickly realized learners’ needs went beyond access to devices when we saw students sitting in front of community establishments at 6:00 am to gain access to WiFi. Students need to be connected to the internet at school -- and at home.
Learners can and should be moving forward in their learning outside of the brick and mortar school. This is particularly important when they’re experiencing life in multiple languages. Free and accessible WiFi connects them to all of the their learning resources, even when they are physically outside of school.
