Bringing STEAMA—science, technology, engineering, arts, Math, and agriculture—to all
STEAMA—science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and agriculture—is generating lots of excitement in and around our schools, as Duplin County is one of the world leaders in agriculture with more hogs than any other county in the United States and a healthy poultry industry. While many across the nation have added to the well-known acronym and inclusive approach to education “arts" and some may have added "agriculture," we to add both. Our commitment to an innovative approach providing personalized career pathways for all students by connecting curriculum and communities provides personalization for all students and is customized for Duplin County. It also empowers students and teachers by maximizing individual talents through creative freedom and engagement. Supported by The Teacher Advisory Committee, comprised of representatives from each school, we fully embrace STEAMA because it widens each student’s perspective of local and global communities by providing relevance to curriculum, college and career opportunities.
