Many see the charter school movement as evidence of the increasing demand for more choice in education. While South Dakota does not allow charter schools, we are able to provide our families with choices by developing schools with a specific focus. We currently have 1,586 students enrolled in specialized school to pursue pathways of interest. At Eugene Field A+ Arts Elementary School, students are engaged with a curriculum that effectively integrates music, art, drama, and dance. Each spring the school presents a musical. Through our Spanish Immersion program, a one-way Immersion program, 73 students have achieved Spanish Language proficiency necessary for the Global Seal of Biliteracy and we expect over 1,000 K-10 students to meet that goal by 2020.
