Bringing STEAM learning to all K-8 students
Guiding STEAM initiatives for students and teachers, using our own design framework

The Middie Maker Design Framework developed by the Middletown City School District Curriculum Department focuses on teaching the design process, utilizing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), incorporating the ISTE standards, designing projects with a focus on computational thinking, and developing the creative genius in each and every student. At Middletown Middle School, the curriculum team developed six focus areas for STEAM Learning:

  1. Engineering Design—Building, designing, and finding solutions to problems
  2. Digital Media—Creating, modifying, viewing, and sharing media with digital devices
  3. Coding—Investigating how computer programs, websites, and apps are created
  4. No tech/Low-tech—Using common materials and resources to upcycle and create with little or no technology
  5. Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality—Exploring different uses of VR and AR
  6. Circuits and Electronics—Investigating basic and complex circuits found in common electronics

The six middle school teams rotate through different learning modules based on these themes. At the elementary level, each school is equipped with various types of STEAM materials, providing students with different learning experiences.
