Observing and reflecting on excellence
Visiting laboratory or model classrooms created in schools across the district

Model classroom observations in conjunction with the reflection and discussion after the observation are great ways to create rich opportunities for educators to collaborate around instructional practice. In fact, model classrooms provide opportunities for teachers to observe exemplary instruction as it happens. The goal for the observer is to then take what they see in the model classroom and implement it in their own space. In Lexington County School District One, we are implementing model classrooms in English Language Arts and Math classrooms at the elementary and middle level during first semester. High School model classrooms will open during second semester. Our focus for the model classrooms is for educators to have a place to see visible implementation of the workshop model in grades K-8 and the student-engagement model in grades 9-12.
