Building engaging, relevant, and personalized learning opportunities and environments for all students
IGNiTE is our 1:1 technology initiative that provides the resources and supports necessary for all teachers and students in Springfield Public Schools to access and experience an engaging, relevant, and personalized learning environment. The decision to move forward with a 1:1 initiative came from a community visioning process that identified providing all students with modern resources as a priority. Over a period of three years, mobile technology was provided in all 50 schools in the district, which included 20,000 Chromebooks for 3rd-12th graders to use as personal devices and 3,000 iPads for the use of station rotations in K-2 classrooms. IGNiTE also includes an Access for All program to ensure that students have access to the internet at home.
Devices are on a three-year refresh cycle and are purchased through a lease. This process allows SPS to ensure IGNiTE continues. On-going teacher support and training is provided by nine Blended Learning Specialists who provide job-embedded coaching in all SPS sites.
