Personalizing the educational experience for all students
The GLS Career Gears program blends student learning with work experience through our internship placement program. Through a partnership with OhioMeansJobs, students are connected to both for-profit and non-profit organizations throughout the state, offering positions aligned with their current interests and skills or skills they would like to develop. Each high school student enrolled in the program then works in a local real-world setting for at least 12 weeks. The experience is augmented through coaching provided by mentors and job coaches within the district. Students may be able to earn credits and/or wages during their internship depending on how the internship is designed. Students use their internship experience as the setting to create and conduct their capstone projects, which are presentations of their internship experiences. These presentations take place at the Reverse Job Fair, held at the high school. At the job fair, students are also able to share their resumes with business partners and share information with representatives from post-secondary institutions.
