With more than 18 years of teaching experience, Steve McWade has always seen trust and human connection as the foundation of powerful learning experiences. In this way, personalized learning didn’t introduce Steve to something new, but instead just made him better at what he was already doing. Working with LEAP, he developed structured ways to stay in touch with his students and honed tangible and rigorous tools and practices to help each and every one of his students advance.
Steve incorporated strategies such as student conferencing and tools such as learner profiles to develop a deeper understanding of his student’s interests, needs and strengths. He then leveraged that information to tailor specific learning pathways for his students. Steve also incorporated best practices from his training on trauma-informed teaching to better support students who have experienced trauma.
