SNAPSHOT
Building robust pathways in computer science for every student
Computer science is not an opt-out experience

South Fayette has strategically built a vertically aligned K-12 computational thinking initiative based on the belief that instruction in computational thinking should begin early and grow progressively deeper and more complex through a series of graduated and interrelated projects. Over time, new STEAM positions were added, and existing positions were reinvented so that all K-8 students receive computational thinking as a skill that is fundamental to every child’s analytical ability. Through this model, we have built a robust pathway and ecosystem in computer science and STEAM learning by designing after-school connected learning experiences that support the computer science pathway. In this way, students can pursue their passion and develop their interests by exploring opportunities in a more personalized approach.
