Living in healthy relationships on a path to gainful employment
We strive to bridge the gap between education and the workplace implementing this program to prepare students after graduation while recognizing that school should focus on creating healthy, happy, productive individuals. Prioritizing cross-sector collaboration, we brought together the city manager, Mayor, President of Chamber of Commerce, CEO of Healthcare District, CEO of Water District, Fire Chief, Police Chief to talk about their hopes and dreams for the community, and where they saw their respective fields going. From this conversation, the World of Work was born.
World of Work empowers every child to discover their unique strengths, interests, and values needed in the world to be a happy kid, living in healthy relationships on a path to gainful employment. The initiative is aimed at early exposure for children to career paths, which focuses on integrating useful, real-world skills into an everyday curriculum in a way that makes it beneficial for teachers and students.
With a 3-Core process, students will have the tools needed to explore the World of Work, through investigating their own strengths, interests and values. This process will often repeat itself as we continually reassess ourselves and adjust our self awareness. The shift away from the college-for-all mentality, focusing on skills instead of test scores, and the additional importance of social-emotional learning, will change the what the students learn and how they see their possible future selves and their career aspirations.
