Creating a culture where students can lead, teachers can inspire, and our community can reimagine the future
We're focusing on an the emerging pathway to develop innovative leadership capabilities in students. This focus has led students to shift from the role of student, to teaching assistant, to curriculum developer, to teacher. Over the course of six years, student teams began teaching and leading after-school Python courses to students and teachers from visiting schools, which eventually led to an eighth grade Python course embedded in the curriculum for all students.
The MyEduDecks team designed and beta-tested a digital ink- and pen-based software flashcard application for use in personalized learning and assessments, with their results published in four books. The BusBudE team is in its third year of designing and beta testing an app to help students travel safely to school on the bus. And the IC4 Club, a cross-cultural Maker collaboration with teams in Namibia, Kenya, Brazil, and Finland gives students the opportunity to pose their own problems and build solutions together. These programs were initiated as after-school incubators with interested students.
