Building an environment where students discover and deepen passions illuminated by innovative instruction
This state-of-the-art program is designed to prepare students for pursuit of employment or advanced training in the commercial and general aviation industry. Throughout the program, students learn the fundamentals of flight including: meteorology, navigation systems and procedures, flight planning skills, ground operations and service duties while working towards earning the FAA Ground School industry certification. Students are provided with workplace learning opportunities such as job shadowing and internships with local business partners in which they are able to apply the skills they have learned in an authentic work environment.
The Academy is in it's inaugural year with nearly 100 students enrolled in the 18-19 school year in the in-school and after school programs. Selections to attend this program are made using a lottery process. Zoned students may select this academy as an elective option. Out-of-zone incoming 9th graders may apply for the academy through the Student Assignment and Program Access Department as part of our ePathways choice options. There is also an after-school course open for any student throughout the district to attend regardless of zone school. This program is reflective of an industry demand and student interest, and we are excited to grow it in the coming years.
